A Saxophone Surprise

The Book Fair is coming up tomorrow!  Our class went to look at all the books in Blake Hall.  The children saw books they knew such as Mercy Watson, Dragons Love Tacos, and Rosie Revere Engineer.   They also noticed new books like The Antlered Ship and Robo-sauce.​

In the studio, Carl and Mac created their self portraits by looking in the mirror, then drew their families.  Mac even included his dog, Wally, in the picture; he finished the whole image by painting with watercolors.

We had a fabulous surprise today.  Joci’s parents came to the Tucker Room!  Her dad, Art, came to play saxophone and clarinet.  Art said, “I’ve been looking forward to meeting you guys.  This is a saxophone.  I started playing this when I was ten years old.  And I’m more than ten now!  Can I tell you how old I am?  You won’t believe it.  Eighty.  When I was in middle school, I played the clarinet.  I brought these pictures.  And then I played the saxophone in high school."

Art showed us pictures from when he was in an orchestra as a younger man.  Then he played many of our favorite songs: Yellow Submarine, Zipadeedoodah, O Susanna, This Land is Your Land, Beauty and the Beast, and When You Wish Upon a Star.   We danced exuberantly to his jazz tunes.
