Egyptian Clay Projects this week...
Inspired by books we have read about the ancient Egyptians, we have two ongoing clay projects this week.  First is our clay pyramid, which has been added to by Jay, Alex and Bruno since Monday.  We are still solving the problem of how to make the top pointy.  Jay's strategy today was to "lean" the tiles in gradually.  We're also using this opportunity to strengthen our "slip and score" skills.  The next project is our clay masks, inspired by the funerary mask of King Tutankhamen (pictured right).

Treasure Maps
Ellee has introduced a new trend at the message center of drawing treasure maps.  Willa, Rose and Prater joined her this morning.  "It's to find sparkles" says Ellee.  She commented that the treasure, once found, would be "pink and blue and green and silver crystals."  Lucy said her map would lead to "a treasure chest filled with treasure and chocolate coins".

We got NEW wheelbarrows!
... Made by the talented Victor!  We were so thrilled to see this new equipment, we got right to work digging.  It was hard work lifting the wet hay into the wheelbarrows.  We then dumped the hay behind the climbing structure.  As Prater dropped off another load of hay, she commented that they were building a "farm".  Many children agreed a horse could live very happily back there with all that hay!  Another fun moment outside:  Willa shares her unicorn horn with Lucy for "one whole day".  She even helps her put in on her head comfortably.  What a good friend!
Lately we've been talking about the sounds of springtime, especially the tweeting of birds in the morning.  We recently discussed how sometimes, when you hear a bird say "hooo", it could be a mourning dove rather than an owl.  And today, we happened to find a mourning dove sitting on the fence, watching us getting our cubby bags at the end of the day!  (See video below)
