A small black bug was found outside in KW yesterday and given a home in a jar.  The children named him "Anty McFireflier".  When we found him this morning, however, he had passed away.  We were very sad to lose him, but it gave us an opportunity to talk about all our experiences with bugs.  We also wondered where we could find another ant just like him somewhere on the playground.

Cassius:  We could find more insects and put them together so they could be friends.
Carl:  I have so many (bugs) in my backyard.  One time there was a worm in my pool.
Jay:  Let's dig for those bugs today, boys!
Mac:  One time I was hiking with my family and we found a red spider.
Grace:  Those red spiders are harm-y spiders.  They can harm you.
Melanie:  Do they bite?
Grace:  It's unlikely that they'll bite.
Hadley:  One time there was a spider in my basement and we put it in a cup, and we throwed the cup, but (the bug) wasn't on the patio, it was on my au pair's shoulder!
Because we cared for Anty, we placed him in a special bowl with a leaf.  Lila made him a card, and asked everyone in the class (including teachers) to draw a heart.

Caroline brought us a delicious treat: homemade sourdough bread.   For snack, she toasted each slice of bread, then buttered them, and finally sprinkled them with cinnamon sugar.

YYYYYUUUUUMMMMMMMMM.  Thank you Caroline.

This snack made us think of Mercy Watson, who loves "toast with a great deal of butter on it"...  We decided to read a Mercy book for our story at second meeting.

One of our favorite ways to clean up the construction area is with an ASSEMBLY LINE!  In the video, you'll see that periodically we announce "STOP"... this is because the front of the line can sometimes become too overwhelmed with blocks, and production needs to halt.  We are always excited when someone finally yells "START!"

The Continued Story of Mac and his Clay Zombie...

Outside today...
We carefully built a wall using sand as the mortar.

We swung from the climbing pole upside down.

And we went down the slide like a surfer!
