Today children and parents surprised Joci with lots of beautifully made drawings, cards and stories. We sang "Happy Birthday" and Joci blew out the candles. Thank you to Nikki and Carola for the delicious cake, and thank you to the children for the wonderful gifts.
After celebrating we went outside to make some "Water cupcakes".
Making maps and Exploring our School
Recently at meeting, Joci and Melanie let the children know that there will be visiting educators coming to our school on Nov. 16th to learn about our space exploration from last year. We told the children these visitors will want to take a look at our lightboxes. Ellee, Alex, Jay, and Rose agreed to help make maps for these visitors, to show them where to find all five lightboxes. They began exploring the bell tower, the "Scary Stairs", and the bathroom to see the lightboxes. They expressed that they wanted to add other important places on the map including the clay mermaid in the bathroom, the drum set and the stage, and the rest of the school (the Chapel, the middle room, the Brown Room, and so on).
After exploring, the group met in the studio to draw the maps. As they drew the lines, they commented...
Alex:That's the door going right to the playground. Here's the stairs you go down. We're starting in Tucker Room, then you go down the Spooky Stairs, then in Blake Hall. Then we go up these stairs and we go around this. And then we go back around and here's the playground.
Jay:This is the black rain coming down.
