Today, Jay and Prater worked on creating a Tucker Room JOB CHART!  They took photographs (the broom, calendar, plant, and cheese) that could represent the four jobs that are on the chart:

- Snack set up
- Snack clean up
- Watering Plants
- Updating the Calendar

"The calendar gets to help the snack person know which day it is to clean up snack."

Freeze Tag!

Prater is the "freezer", Bruno runs!
Recently, our class discussed fairness in taking turns during games of Freeze Tag outside.  They explained that they use "hip skip sky blue" to decide who is the "Freezer".  This method involves several children standing in a tight circle, and one person kneeling to touching each person's foot once.  It's similar to "Eenie Meenie Mynie Moe".
Carl: You say it out loud so then (everyone) will hear it.  And the one that’s not you, then you’re out, and then you go around the circle.
Jay:  If the person is the last to be picked, it has to be the freezer.
Alex:  If you’re playing you have to be the freezer.
Cassius:  You can just be for a couple seconds, you don’t have to tag anybody.  You can just run for a couple seconds, and try to tag someone, and then you can say “I don’t want to be the freezer.”

The group identified a problem:  it was usually the same person again and again to do "hip skip sky blue".  They felt this was unfair, so they found a solution.
Alex:   Maybe every day one person gets a turn.  Like today is my turn, tomorrow is Carl’s turn, the next day is Bruno’s turn, the next day is Cassius’ turn, the next day is Jay’s turn, and the next day is Mac’s turn.
Cassius:  Or maybe all the boys get to do it every backwards day.
Melanie:  What about the girls?  Do the girls want a chance to play freeze tag?
(Many girls at once): Yeah!
Cassius:  The girls do it sometimes too.
Alex:  If they want to play with us they can.

Sound Painting Continued

Lila and Rose came to the studio today to paint a sound.  They listened to one of the many sound clips we gathered on our recent "sound hunts".  The sound they heard was a recording of children stomping their feet, but they interpreted it as horses galloping.  Together with a teacher, they found an image of horses to print and use as a reference.  Their first draft is on the top left.
Lila:  This is a big pony.
Rose:  It's winter now.  The ponies are going home.  It's snowing in this picture.
Lila:  This is water.

For their second draft (top right), they looked more closely at the basic shapes of a horse: four ovals and one square.  They then carefully painted each shape on their paper, discussing frequently how large the shape should be and where it should be placed.  Finally, the girls used large brushes to fill in the shapes with white paint, making a white horse.
