Outside, during a game of Freeze Tag, a group of children met to discuss who would be the next "freezer".

Grace and Lila sing:

Row row row your boat,
Gently down the stream
If you see an alligator,
Don't forget to scream, AAH!

Lucy listened to The Sound of Music from a teacher's phone.  While listening to "The Lonely Goat-herd", she said: "The part where she coughs, that's me and my mama's favorite part.  I can't stop listening to The Sound of Music.  I was wondering if Jack, George, Dada, Mama and me could go see it all together."  Others soon joined her to listen to, "Do Re Mi".

Alex was the leader of the band in the studio.  He said their song was called, "The Ghost and the Goblins."

Alex told the players: "I start, then Jay, then Bruno, then Mac.  Ready, setty, go... You guys have to be looking at me, okay?  When I put my hands down, you immediately have to stop [playing]."  They played, joining in one at a time.  Then Alex said,  "Let's trade instruments."  All members of the group traded.

Then, when Alex was holding the recorder, he said, "We need notes.  Like music notes.  So we know what to play."  We printed sheet music to a jazz composition and took turns holding it up while we played.

A little later, the Rainey Room friends knocked on our door.  They very politely asked that we play our music a little softer.  We agreed to play softer, of course... but we also asked if we could come in and perform, too.  The boys took care to play very softly.  The Rainey Room loved our performance!

We are working on a Thank You card for Alex's Grandpa Jeff who visited our classroom recently and played some songs on his guitar.  A couple of his songs were "Wagon Wheel," "Oh Susanna," and "I'll Be Working' On The Railroad", which, as he explained, are folk songs.  We thought it might be nice to draw the story that each song tells as a way to say thank you.  Below, Grace draws a banjo for "Oh Susanna" (...with a banjo on my knee).  Prater (upper right) drew a train on the tracks.  Willa (bottom right) drew a wagon wheel. Willa said, "They put things inside the wheel.  They open and close them (pointing to the dots inside the wheel).  This is gonna be the rain."  As she listened to the lyrics of the song, she heard the word "mama" a few times.  "My mama has long hair," said Willa, and she added her mama to the picture.
