Jay's interest in building bridges in construction has inspired all of us to want to learn more about how bridges are made, what materials are used, and where they need to be built. When friends came in to school today they found a provocation of photos displayed on the block table of some very interesting bridges from places like Pakistan, Vancouver, Vietnam, Colorado, and Myanmar. Jay took one look at the images and compared one (below, top left) to his own block structure. He exclaimed, "That one is this! We just knew how to build it. We didn't even need the picture." Jay later named the image the "The Fearsome Bridge." Together, children gave names to the rest of the bridge photos. We're excited to see how these unique photographs will inspire children to use their imaginations and discover new ways of building.
It was a great day for message writing, especially to friends whose mail boxes are not as full as others. We've already begun to make Valentines for our beloved friends. Prater and Hadley made "musical messages" with googly eyes that make sound when you shake them.
