Today was out first Backwards Day!  We began the day outside in the warm weather.

Grace and Lucy got out the beloved animals and made a variety of animal sounds.  They pretended a zebra says "oink oink".
In the studio, we've been experimenting with wire and metal objects.  Each child will be making a portfolio basket decoration with these materials.  Each child chose a different approach to attaching the materials (each piece corresponds to the child's picture above).
  • Hadley wrapped the wire around the metal and said, "I'm doing this so it's more stable."  When she saw the silver hand standing up she said, "Yay!  It's a little wobbly but it works."  Then, she chose to hang a silver monkey hook from a ring.  When she discovered that it was hanging too low and would block others' portfolio baskets, she found a way to adjust the monkey's position upwards.
  • Bruno used a screw driver to poke holes in the thick foam core board, then pushed metal pieces deep into the material.  Then, when he had a variety of metals, he used a golden knob to tap each piece.  "It's like a music player," he said, observing the different sounds they made.
  • Alex was careful in noticing the different metal materials.  "Wow, a wrench!" he said.  After pushing only golden pieces into the foam core, he wound the copper wire around three of them.  He also replaced a piece that turned out to be too heavy.

We have been continuing to explore areas of the Tucker Room such as the "small stuff" area.  This area involves games, puzzles, and fine motor activities.  Above you can see the interest we had in dominoes today.

Here, Lila describes what she has built to Rose.  "It's a castle.  These are the gates.  Okay, gates are opening...  Soon bad guys come in."  She shows Rose how she used the yellow hexagon pieces for stairs.

We ended our morning with some yoga.  Here you can see our hands in the air for warrior pose.
