"Now I'm old!" - Elena

A very happy birthday to Elena! 

This morning we gathered to celebrate Elena's fifth birthday together with her parents. They showed us photos of Elena through her first four years of life as well as a few of Elena's current interests-  a calculator, binoculars, and of course her favorite stuffed animal, Micky Mouse! 

​Then, we read one of Elena's favorite books, "How the World Works: A Hands on Guide to Our Amazing Planet," Followed by "Missing Math: A Number Mystery"

The Celebration Continues...

The Birthday Committee Hard at Work

The Interview:

Elena's Birthday Committee met yesterday to interview her and find out what she'd like to see on her birthday table. Maisie created a checklist by drawing pictures and Will wrote out a list!

Lily: What's your favorite animal?
Elena: Panda and butterfly
Maisie: What's your favorite color? 
Elena: Pink and purple
Will: I'll just make a list of what she likes 
Elena: I like princesses and butterflies
Will: What else do you like?
Elena: I like outer space. I've never been to outer space 
Maisie: Outer space is a good one, Elena
Elena: I want you to draw a sun
Maisie: I'm gonna draw a plant and a sun as well. Do you like gems?
[Elena nods yes]
Elena: I like helicopters, airplanes, and I like going to Cypress. It looks like a whole big city, it's really different from here. It's Greek and it's not the language we're speaking in... Outer space is my favorite thing
Will: Have you ever had a dream about outer space?
Elena: I have and I've been really wanting to go!
​Maisie: Maybe for her birthday we can give her a ticket to outer space!
Elena: I love Cypress because there's new foods there. 
Maisie: One more thing, what else do you want? Do you like anything else?
Elena: I do like to make a wish for my birthday! My wish is to go to outer space! Can you put outer space on my table please? 

The Committee meets to set the table 

Lily sets out the special birthday treat, oatmeal cookies!
