Portraits of our Homes

This morning we continued drawing portraits of our homes.
Abby, Dagny, Tommy, and James sat with the photo of their home and drew their interpretations!
Picture
Abby began with a vertical paper noticing how the shape of paper matches the shape of her house. "It's a little bit bigger than the house!" she remarked.
Picture
Abby took a closer look at the photo and noticed, "My door is black and I named my car 'Sandy' like in Annie!" She started the drawing with the door and a knob.
Picture
Abby drew the leaves around the house. "Leaves on the house are falling down" she hummed merrily while she worked!

Picture
Tommy noticed that his house is wider than it is tall so he decided to use a horizontal paper to begin his drawing.
Picture
Drawing the outline first, he drew all of the bricks, the door, and even the little light above the door. "Turned on light there!" He noticed.

Adding color to the building, Tommy thought, "We should leave it blank, the door is blank because it white"

James first remarked on how he could see himself in the photograph but not the little worms on the walkway. When he sat down to draw the house he began by placing the paper vertically to match the orientation of the house. He drew the rectangular outline then added the front steps, and the windows. James pointed out that he has one window in the basement, two on the first floor and three on the second and third floors. When he began to add color he decided to add black shutters next to each window.

Despite her house being more horizontal than vertical, Dagny preferred her paper to be vertical and she began by drawing the outline of a rectangular house. She then added the windows and the roof. She noticed the limitations of the space when wanting to add her door and so she problem solved by adding a smaller door.
Picture
Adding color to the drawing, Dagny began by painting the grass below the house in her front yard. She then began to paint the red bricks of the house. Dagny worked with precision as she slowly guided her brush around the black lines she drew for the windows keeping the red paint outside the windows.
Picture
After painting her door black she noticed that the windows are all white still. "My windows are white and they need to have color" so she adds blue paint one by one to each window.

"Doggie, Doggie, Where's Your Bone?!"

Games are a significant part of our daily life here in the Rainey Room.
They bring us together as a group to have fun, laugh, and learn how to participate in a group.
Some of you might be familiar with the popular Rainey Room game, "Doggie, Doggie, where's your bone?"
The children love to crawl and sniff their friends to find the bone!

Mystery Reader

Picture
We were delighted to be joined by a special Thursday Mystery Reader guest! Lily's dad, Wes came in and read some books to the children including one about travel. "Sometimes at security you have to take your shoes off!" noted Lily and  "Once I came on a vacation and my mommy brought my buddy in my backpack and when I was not looking like this and then opened my eyes I couldn't find the bunny!" Shared Tommy "When I was in there airplane I wanted my Yaya because I was tired" added Will.  The children all wanted to share different things they know about traveling!
