Happy Holidays, Happy Tuesday
We have commenced preparations and projects for the holidays and work to get us ready to dismiss for our winter break.
To prepare for the break, children who had previously created clay replicas of objects photographed on field trips gathered at the studio table to glaze their work. The color gives a new kind of life to the clay candy, cookies, succulents, and even a (polar) bear or two. Soon these lovelies will be fired in the kiln and ready to be used in the shop. So exciting!
Holiday spirit here we come, and the children have begun to make holiday cards! This project is part thinking about our loved ones and creating something beautiful for them by being thoughtful and creative and many more parts about continuing to develop relationships with materials and languages by strengthening our technique and understanding of paper, fibers, scissors, glue, material manipulation through collage, sewing, and eventually literacy with each message.
Thank you so much to all of our Mystery Readers so far: Mimi (Abby's grandma / Lisa's mom), Gillian (Dagny's mom), Marley, and Dana (Vivienne's mom). This is such a great part of our weekly schedule, and we are so thrilled with the enthusiasm from all of you--we have mystery readers signed up through February already! And the children really love it!
