Memento Tree Ornaments from Around the World: A Hou Family Tradition
Dan, Sarah, Tegan, and baby Audrey shared their family tradition! Every year, the Hou family decorates their Christmas tree with souvenir ornaments. When the Hou family travels they find a special tree ornament to bring home. They passed a few of these ornaments around, along with sharing photos of Tegan in the locations where they've traveled. There was Cancun, Mexico, San Francisco in front of the Golden Gate Bridge, in Key West where Dan "found his passion for sailing," and Sedona, Arizona - their most recent trip. Having them share this family tradition made us all feel so much closer. The children all cheered a boisterous "Thank you!"

Creating the Story While Illustrating: Cate's Committee
A page of the story has character counting: "Will can you write the numbers?" Will takes on the challenge and begins writing the numbers 1 through 5. "Is 3 a zigzag?" Will asks. "It is kind of like a zigzag." A bit later - "Is a 5 a zigzag?" "Well not as much a the 3. It is more like a straight line going this way (demonstrates a horizontal plane with hand) connected to a straight line going this way (show hand in vertical) and then a curved line at the bottom." Will draws the number 5. A bit later - "Oh a 'z' is a zigzag," states Will.
