Sharing Breakfast Together in the Outdoor Classroom

"See Mom this was the surprise!" -Caleb

A Photo of Each Animal in the Shop at Our Breakfast

What a wonderful way to begin a Wednesday!

Before we began our preparations yesterday, for our family breakfast, (family instead of "parent" because Elena was curious to know if it was just for parents. So, we then unanimously decided to make it more inclusively call it "family breakfast.") we had a snack time conversation about how to prepare for our breakfast together. Some take aways from that conversation were as follows:
“Put animals on everything.” Lily
“Inside and outside.” -Cate
“Decorate with something like animals, beads, and other things like that.” -James
“That we love animals. I love pandas and every animal I know. I like to learn about animals.” -Elena
“It’s not enough that we tell them we love animals. We need to tell them the names, what they do, what they are, what they do in the animal shop, and that we clean the animals.” James

Let the Family Breakfast begin!

An influential and shared experience at the easel...

Will and Caleb began painting while waiting their turns for portfolio review.  Will started by painting one orange line after the next, along each edge of the paper. Caleb, at the right of Will, was closely observing Will and began the influence is evident in the product of his painting. Will continued painting. He drew maroon lines next creating a rectangle in the center of the paper. Then Caleb put an orange frame on his blank paper. Will kept painting, adding blue then yellow. Caleb paused painting as he continued watching Will for some time until eventually his painting was complete.
Side by side the paintings gorgeously go together! (Caleb's: right Will's: left)
