The Cover for the Giant Book of Addresses!
During yesterday's discussion during snack time, the children noticed that several children were not yet drawn on the cover. So today's first plan was to add every Rainey Room friend to the drawing! Some children drew themselves but most of the children chose to draw one of their friends instead. Even Ribbit and Urtle, our friendly classroom frog and turtle, made it onto the cover.
We will want to sit back down with the drawing to make sure that the children can all recognize one another as Cate pointed out. So stay tuned!
Today we sorted through and organized Caleb and Will's portfolio drawers to prepare for parent teacher conferences. So far most of the children have had an opportunity to meet with Melanie or Allison to sort through their drawers and organize their work. At our staff meeting on Monday we talked about the importance of the portfolio drawers and what they can mean for the children, teachers, and parents alike.
Some notable comments and reflections:
-It is a useful tool to see the child's progression throughout the year
-It is important for children to make edits/add/notice changes in their own work
-Teacher assessment tool to understand the child's learning processes
-Great way for parents to see theirs child's growth and learning
-Serves as living documentation to reflect on our individual work as well as collaborative experiences
-The children can recall what their work was about, relive the memory, and notice what's important to them
