There were so many meaningful happenings this morning in the Rainey Room that we want to share with you!

Tommy's Tiger

“Sooo, this is how we do it. We take a look at the picture and draw. Then we look and the picture and draw. And then we start all over again!” - Tommy

,The last few days Tommy and Cate have been playing "Tiger" out in the outdoor classroom and this morning Tommy decided to draw the Tiger at the easel. Once his figure was complete, we gave him a transparency to lay over the tiger in order to continue drawing (and telling his story along the way) without interfering with his original drawing. This method was so useful, Tommy laid an additional transparency to work with. Caroline presented Tommy's work to the class at our second meeting and then read a few books about tigers.

Watercolor Painting

Now that our snack plates are drying and ready for their first firing in the kiln, we suggested that the children begin to think about how they will want to glaze and decorate their plates. We offered watercolor paints for the children to begin to explore a similar medium and prepare for our glazing sessions next week!

More Clay Play!

Meanwhile, over at the other studio table, Hugh, Max, Will, James, and Caleb all continued working on their clay projects from yesterday. Clay pizzas for everyone! After completing their work, Caroline brought the boys into the Tucker Room studio to wash their clay tools. First they wiped all the extra clay off the tools using paper towels, then they gave the tools a good soak and wash in a tub. Cleaning the tools may even be more fun?

Mini Eiffel Towers

After finishing up with their watercolors, the children then transitioned to continue working on their mini Eiffel Tower structures. They created such interesting designs with the various materials, each so unique and different!

The Magnetic Chalk Board

Meanwhile, the other children transitioned to working on the magnetic chalkboard across the hall from our classroom. James was immediately drawn to the negative space shapes from the magnets and began to draw inside the shapes,  lifting them up afterwards to see their design. Hugh, Lily, and Max worked to make a complex path for the balls using the various ramps and tubes.

The Witches Brew

Finally, in the outdoor classroom the children all worked together on making a deliciously icky witches brew!
