Another Day, Another Dollar... "Next customer!"

More time was given to personalizing the shop/restaurant as the children thought up shopping and ingredient lists.

Look how much ingredients!  -Tommy

SHOPPING LIST:

Zarina: Pasta, pasta, croissants, and pesto. ... It's squiggly pasta like a tornado.
Tommy: Hot tea!

Abby's Dinner Menu:
  • Pasta and cheese to eat
  • Butter to put on your hands
  • Orange juice to drink
  • Mangos for fruit
  • Carrots for veggies
  • And chocolate for dessert!

Going Into the Field: Our first trip exploring the neighborhood

We went on a real, real field trip out to the country.  -Hugh
Our first small group field trip took place today with "teacher Kate" as the guide. Kate joined Rainey Room and will continue to be a part of our class every Thursday. Having her as an extra teacher along with the children's  continued, interest and enthusiasm in their classroom shop/restaurant provides opportunities and purpose for more field trips. We look forward to taking more explorational walks outside the micro-locality of the classroom to expand into the macro-locality of our neighborhood.

Kate: What's a neighborhood?
Hugh: It's a street, it's like lots of streets. Like if you take a car and go on the highway across Key Bridge, then you're not in a neighborhood anymore.

Abby presents a bright orange fruit:

Lily: Don't touch it, it's dirty inside.
Vivienne: Let's smash it.
Dagny: (from afar) It's a tomato!
Lily: It's from in the tree! Tomatoes!
Vivienne: (pointing up at the Persimmon tree) It's one of those but the red one.
