"I love fire trucks. So, maybe to tell my house I will draw a fire truck."   -Hugh

With the completion of our Rainey Room Book of Addresses, we wanted to leverage the children's interest in drawing their own homes. We asked for photographs of everyone's houses, and today we began the project of drawing portraits of our homes.
Picture
Cate: I need these two colors. My house is red and white.
Zarina: Look at Me!
Max: Door, windows, lights, I’ll leave the whole space white because it’s all white right here. This is where the birds can poop. You know why I have that because my parents don’t want the birds to poop on our plants…a bird pooper.
Picture
Max: This is the alarm thingy. That’s where I sleep. That’s our tree. That’s the neighbor’s tree. That’s outside light. I have to put yellow inside it. (Max counts the windows he sees on his house in the photograph. Then he counts the number of windows he has drawn.) The railing. Oohhh! That where my bikes go. It’s a little sneaky door. And you know what there’s bars. There’s bars right here so no bad guys get in and steal my bikes. And you have to have a key. And every, and everyday we have to put our bikes in and lock it up. Or this is the door to the basement. And there is another door inside that! But you really can’t see it because it’s on the other side of that.
Picture
Zarina: I’m starting with me.
Picture
Hugh: (Hugh colors his door blue – “Tom painted it.”) ... The bushes! There’s one thing I forgot in my house – the bushes! ... I’m drawing that green field. The green field, remember how there is that green field in front of our school? Yeah this is the green field. There’s grass. ... The road! …That’s just the outline.
Picture
Cate: Windows are to see people. The couch is here.
Cate: I even have a neighbor. She’s right over here but um, right over here because both of our houses are… And we live next to each other. Molly, that’s my neighbor.
Max:I don’t have a friend that lives next to me. No I only have an adult neighbor. I do have a friend that goes to St. Johns but Hadley lives across from me.

Mystery Reader!

Picture
Not just one Mystery Reader but two! Along with two adorable special guests who Max was so delighted to see! Thank you to Sarah, Harriet (Max's nanny), Sophia and Sadie (Max's   sisters)!

"I have that one at my house!" chimed some of the children about the books that Sarah brought in today to read. Loving all three books she read: Sam and Dave Dig a Hole; Pretend; & Just Ask!

Harriet read Aladdin to the children. A familiar story for most, but the catch--Harriet read the book in Spanish! The children followed along with the reading and were happy.

Happy to be back at school Max couldn't wait to read the recent entries before bed. We love seeing all the littles drawing their houses and describing them in such depth. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
