Wow! What a day in the Brown Room. We started in the outdoor classroom where one group of children helped to stock and organize the outdoor studio, choosing materials and helping to decided what should be placed on each shelf. The children also helped to inspect and organize materials. Jack tested markers while Louise sorted them. Austin sharpened pencils while Leigh explored different marks based on the pencils' sharpness. Meanwhile on the playground a group of children made beautiful ink prints using leaves and other natural materials. During snack, we noticed a huge tree branch that had fallen on the sidewalk outside. We got to watch a group of men take it apart with a chainsaw and carry pieces away in a big truck. Will: He’s building a tree. Leigh: Where’s he going to take it? Grace: Oh, no. Tree broken. He fix it. Louise: Why tree is broken? Lulu: It’s fixed. We spent the rest of the morning in the classroom exploring tubes and tunnels. Trains in tunnels, cars in tunnels, tunnels in tunnels! We did so many things with tunnels: we rolled trains and cars through them; we connected them to make networks; we banged them together and noticed the sounds and vibrations; Grace even played them like a violin. It was amazing!
