This morning we explored a new collection that was a bit of a mystery. A parent brought in the collection of natural objects and we worked as a group during morning meeting to try to identify them:
Elle: It’s a nest. Will: I think this is from a tree. Lou Lou: It is from a tree. Jossie: It’s a nest. Kian: It’s dripping from a tree, but it fell down. Sally: It looks like a nest, but also they look like curls. Margaret: There are spikes around it, they’re prickly. Lou Lou: It’s from the beach. A spike beach. Jack: It has this (round shiny object) inside. Sam: I know what it is. It’s a seed. Austin: It’s from a tree. Elle: It’s an acorn. Grace: Corns look like circles. Jossie: I want to see one with the acorn inside. It’s an acorn because it has white on the bottom and brown on the top.
A few children visited the acorns later and examined them more closely. Whether they truly are acorns--and if so, what type of acorn they are--remains a mystery.
And now for a little dose of joy (and relationships)....
