Today we had Amy with us in the classroom while Lisa was out. We started the morning in the outdoor classroom and listened to different sounds that we made through the long colorful tubes.
Will It’s moving! I feel it!
Will could feel the vibrations of Toniann’s voice through the tube.
Jossie I can make one, too. Its quiet. Did you hear it?
Amy It tickled my ear!
Then we found a shiny blackish brown bug near the shed. It was big and moved slow. Everyone was afraid at first.
Louise Its gonna get me!
Lou Lou Oh, no! It’s gonna get me!
Toniann Why do you think that? Wow, it moves so slow. Look at that! What is that long thing? How cool!
Amy scooped it up and we brought it over to the table for closer inspection.
Lou Lou Wow, its shiny!
Austin It has pointy things.
Louise Look, its moving.
Lou Lou Its funny!
We watched it for a while. Noticing how it moved and what parts it had and it’s color. Then we said goodbye and set it back near the shed.
In the classroom we painted at the easel with tempera paints and at the table with watercolors. There was a festive meal at the table and Will prepared sushi for Margaret. We got a call from Rainy Room and the message was a question, “Why did the chicken cross the road?” No one understood it. So, Toniann asked again, “Why did the chicken cross the road?” Everyone was puzzled. Then Austin had a response, “It ran!”
Amy read beautifully to the children. They hung onto her every word and then they cuddled around her at the second story on the rug. Toniann played songs on the ukulele while the children played their chosen instruments and Amy sang; it was a joyous ending to the classroom time. We walked down the hall to the Tucker Room to lead the sing along and relished in the time to gather, sing and dance with the whole school. It was so wonderful for us all, especially for me. Have a great weekend!
