Austin's St John's Birthday

We celebrated Austin's birthday before meeting this morning.  Austin's parents Mance and Sarah & Nana came to the celebration. They shared stories about his first years of life.  Austin's middle name is Mance after his Dad. When he was very little he was his Mommy's "baby buddy" and that evolved into the name his family calls him now "Bubbie". His parents brought pictures to show us and shared the stories of each one. His great grandmother sewed the outfit he was wearing as a baby in one of the pictures. Another picture was of them in their house when they first moved there and Sara explained that his grandpa helped fix it up. They shared a photo of Austin with his grandpa in a Corvette and Austin as a ring bearer at his Uncle's wedding when he was one year old. Austin takes Karate and Mance explained why he was holding a board in one picture. Austin had just earned his yellow belt by breaking the board with his foot! Austin plays baseball and has his own collector baseball card and his Dad coaches the team! The last photo they shared was of Austin on his 3rd birthday and his Nana hand made a spectacular Spiderman Pinata.

Austin walked around the candle four times for every year of his life.  When we asked him about how many times he will walk around the candle he said with a smile, "3 3/4 because my birthday didn't happen yet!" We all sang happy birthday and then brought Austin his gift. He opened up the wrapping paper and found all of the things he told us in our interview that he likes on his card: colors, metal things, tickly things and a dinosaur with horns!  In our quest to find a horned dinosaur we learned about the stracosaurous. They had four to six long horns! So cool! When we learned about the stracosaurous Will said, "Wow! So many horns! That's a good one! Austin will like it."

Austin's family brought a favorite of Austin's Italian ice for the special birthday snack treat. It was so delicious and wonderful; a refreshing reminder of summer. Thank you!
