The children were burying things in the sandbox and challenging friend’s to find the treasure. Most of the items were rocks so it was challenging if not impossible to find the right stone or stick. Leigh asked to get more treasure from upstairs and helped select loot from the tucker closet. She choose beads, feathers, gems and plastic eggs. When she came downstairs she presented the treasure to Elle, who helped her bury it in a shallow hole in the sandbox.
Leigh: They will fall into the sand so no one can ever find it!
Elle: Uh Oh our treasure is gone! ….Did it get over here somehow?
Joslin: Sometimes you just forget where you hide things.
The children kept digging in the same spot and recruited more friends to help but they only found one piece of the treasure. Margaret had undearthed a plastic egg. The experience involved lots of hypothesizing, communication and teamwork. Although the treasure was all buried in the same place, they couldn’t find the rest.. Will another class find it? Or another group of children? Stay tuned!
