The Brown Room had a busy morning in the studio between watercolor painting, easel painting and a light table provocation. Friends experimented with color mixing and thought representationally while they painted: Jack: This is a little bit of a volcano. It's a little bit green. Leigh: Now (combining blue and yellow) I'm making green. Margaret: Now I'm making bubbles. Leigh: This is a mermaid. Grace: I make an airplane! Louise: I'm making a butterfly. Margaret: I like watercolors! And chips! Louise: I like chips, too! Margaret: It (the painting) needs to be dry. Lousie: This is for Mommy and Daddy. Margaret: This is for Mommy, Daddy, Campbell and Hadley. Inspired by Will's love of orchestra music, we listened to Peer Gynt while painting today! Will: I can her the flutes and the tuba! Play the song with the bubbles! Friends experimented with new materials on the light table; mixing colored objects with colored transparencies and also playing with size and shape as they attempted to fit different pieces together. Airplane play was popular again today in the construction area, as well as cooking and party planning in the kitchen. Friends prepared all kinds of holiday delicacies. Louise: We're making Santa cookies for Christmas. Leigh: And for the reindeer. Louise: And we cut them. Charlie: (At sink) I'm washing it. Lou Lou: (With food) It's not hot, just warm. Louise: (With muffin tray) I have some yummy cookies. They're too hot. You can't eat them yet. But you can eat them for dessert. I'm the Mommy. Lou Lou: There's two mommies. I'm the Mommy, too. Louise: Yeah. Grace: (With baby) I need to put her to bed. Have a wonderful weekend! See you all next week!
