Today was Jack’s birthday and also his school birthday celebration. To start the day, Elle made him a beautiful birthday card in the message center. It was a lovely surprise for Jack and for his family, who joined us this morning to celebrate Jack.
During our celebration, Jack’s parents told stories and showed photos of the first days and months of Jack’s life, including their move to a new house just before he was born and the weather on the very cold night when he arrived at 3 o’clock in the morning. According to Jack and his family, he still likes to get up in the middle of the night--except now, Jack says, “I like to play in my room.”
We learned that Jack was born at Sibley Memorial, the same hospital where his father was born. We also learned that Lucy was eating cookies when she met Jack (and also when she met their little brother George), and we watched a wonderful video of Lucy rocking newborn baby Jack in his carrier the day he came home from the hospital. We learned that Jack loved to nap in the sunshine when he was an infant, and we saw photos of Jack enjoying his first stroller ride and his first Super Bowl.
After Jack circled the candle, and after we sang Happy Birthday and he blew out his candle, Jack opened a second birthday card created for him by many of his Brown Room friends. It was painted in his favorite color (green) and covered with some photos they had taken and others they had found online of all Jack's favorite things: planes, trains, trucks, boats...and Jack's lovies! It was a wonderful time to be together and to learn about and celebrate Jack.
Happy third birthday, Jack! And thanks to Hilary, John, and Lucy for celebrating with us today.
