Today was our first school birthday celebration. After weeks of talking about Jossie’s upcoming birthday, placing it on the calendar, and rehearsing for the celebration, the big day was finally here! Jessie’s mom and brother Lochie spent some time in the classroom after drop-off, talking with friends in the cozy corner. After everyone had arrived, we gathered together and Jossie’s mom shared favorite photos chosen by each member of the family. These included photos of Jossie with her mom, dad, brother, and dog Lyla. After passing around the photos, we laid out the birthday rug and the children noticed all the images in the outer space motif, including planets and turtles (Why turtles? Great question.). Then Jossie circled the candle once for each time she’s traveled around the sun, we sang happy birthday, and she blew out the candle. Finally, we presented Jossie with a special birthday card made by her Brown Room friends. The original birthday committee included Sam, Austin, Elle and Louise; however, lots of friends joined in to help decorate the card and to compose the beautiful message: “Happy Birthday, Jossie. We love you.” Later we all shared a special birthday snack of strawberries and croissants. It was a very special day. Happy school birthday, Jossie!
