From the construction area in our classroom, the children heard beeps, rumbles, and other noises from outside. This sparked their curiosity and they began to search for the source. They tried to see through the classroom windows which were blocked by trees, so they went to the studio, where there was a clearer view outside. This is what they observed:
Rowan: Lots of dirt and sand.
Louise: I don't like dirt sand. Yucky. What they doing with Betty's park? They're making a new park for Betty.
Rowan: Watch, this goes higher (the digger).
Austin: That's the biggest one right there.
Lousie: I don't like that one.
Rowan: They're making a building.
Austin: That (the cylinder) are how they make it hard. It's a new park.
Louise: Yes, for Betty.
Austin: What's Betty?
Louise: Betty is from our house, but I go to her house with Mommy and Daddy.
Lisa: What else could they be building?
Elle: A slide!
Austin: A basketball court!
Louise: And a latter.
Austin: And a firetruck.
Louise: And a swing!
Austin: I like tire swings.
Elle: It's a park for mommy. A new playground for mommy.
Rowan: I hear a beep beep sound.
Later Kian and Sam joined to find out what the beep beep sound was. Could this be the start of something?
