In preparation for the Book Fair, the children have been asked to create kites. Victor, our resident renaissance man, came to school to show us how. The children decided the teachers could not look at the kite while Victor was working. But how could we help them build the next kite if we couldn’t look? The children began to describe in detail the steps Victor was taking using descriptive language. This process helped reinforce what they were seeing and required them to pay extra close attention.
