It was great to see our Brown Room friends after Friday's Professional Day. When children returned yesterday they found new things in their environment. One of these things was a sign-in board. Children can indicate they are at school by moving a magnetized image of themselves from the "home" side to the "school" side. This new element was introduced because children had expressed a desire to know which of their classmates was at school each day. The children have enjoyed using this tool both yesterday and today.
A stove and a sink have also been added to the dramatic play area. This group of children are masterful at pretend play,. They go on trips, take care of babies, and cook pizza or chicken and rice. Children appreciated having a larger area to do this important work. (Some of these photos are from yesterday.)
Of course, there were airplanes! There was airplane pretend play, airplanes and runways in the construction area, easel paintings featuring airplane images, as well as drawings and collages. The enthusiasm continues, and we will be making some of this work visible in the classroom later this month.
