It's been nearly a week since created a planter and sowed chia seeds for our garden. Today we checked on their progress.
Lisa: There’s nothing growing yet. I wonder why? Austin: We may need to plant new seeds. We need some grass seeds that go in a straight line. We have lots at home in a big bucket. Margaret: And we can water just a tiny bit. Later, Rowan, Jack, and Lou Lou notice the planter box and look for signs of life. They don’t see anything growing. Lisa: What do you think happened? Rowan: We put too much water on them. Jack: I think a spider came and ate them. Lou Lou: Butterflies ate it because they love plants. Rowan: And bumble bees. Austin: Bumble bees stinged the plants. Jack: Maybe a mosquito ate it. We didn’t come to a conclusion, but there were lots of theories and it seemed any of them could be the cause. Later, Lou Lou stopped to another look at the planter box. Lisa: Austin suggested we plant more seeds. What do you think? Lou Lou: Maybe it’s gonna grow tomorrow. Or maybe we can cover it with grass seeds and maybe they’ll grow? At the end of our outside time, Grace checked in on the planter box. Grace: Our seeds are almost growing. Lisa: How long do you think it will take them to grow? Grace: Almost three minutes? Lisa: Is there anything we need to do now? Grace: Put more water in it. Grace feels the soil to see if it's dry, decides it doesn't need water just yet. Lisa: When should we check again? Grace: Probably Sunday, or probably tomorrow.
