It was an eventful day! The children arrived to the classroom and found a bug provocation. Yesterday, there were many stories with the insect figurines on structures, which inspired this investigation. Images of insects were projected onto paper. Grand gestural drawing with colored pencils danced across the pages. Many children indulged in the experience and a few stood by and watched. Children also helped to choose the next image to project and butterflies were a favorite. Lisa and the birthday committee worked in the studio to prepare for Jossie's celebration and many children were curious about the process and moving fluidly between the rooms. Suddenly, train layouts became a focus and so the building steamed on. Steam locomotives became the next images projected on the plexiglass, but no one wanted to draw. We discussed the train differences and the various types of trains and played a video of a Santa Fe engine and listened quietly to the sounds. There is always something wonderful about it. The bells, grinding of the wheels, the whistles blowing and the sound of the engine roaring that always stop them and catches everyone's attention.
