Our interest in space is helping us revisit some ideas we are exploring with music. Many children are familiar with the Star Wars characters and stories, and it has been coming up a lot in classroom conversations. The film also happens to be accompanied by an iconic soundtrack composed and conducted by John Williams and performed by the London Symphony Orchestra. We have been exploring ideas around music and the power it has to convey emotion, tell stories, and heighten experiences. Today, during morning meeting we asked the children to relax their bodies and listen to Darth Vader's Imperial March play. If the song made them feel a certain emotion or remind them of something going on, they shared it with the class. Here were their thoughts as the song played:
Joslin: Darth Vader is fighting.
