Pondering table setting. As table setting becomes more and more familiar, the children are starting to connect with each other more and more. They're also getting more and more thoughtfully intentional with their table setting arrangements.

This week the CW children had the opportunity to work on their portrait. Then we shrunk their portrait and added it to their school portrait to differentiate whose in CW! We will continue to work on our Mini CW portraits until all our CW friends have made one.

It's a new month of table setting moments! As the days grow colder, we want to get cozier! So we gathered some cozy materials, some small world animals, along with some miniature trees and houses, topped off with some twinkling candles.

Working with Clay, Loving Small World, Being Outside

"Why are we making this?" -Lily
"So we can bring them home after they are in the kiln." -Tommy
The language of clay has been active with the support of Eva. On Monday and Tuesday, the children made something special for Brigitte,  (who has been away and will be back on Monday!) as a heartfelt gift in acknowledgment of her. Starting today, Eva pivoted the clay work to reflect the spirit of the winter season by inviting the children to explore the technique of impressions through the making of clay ornaments. The children were happy to create an ornament, make connections to previous experiences and knowledge, and to value the home to school connection with  their enthusiasm to take home their ornament.

"Tomorrow we will come to school and bring it (the ornament) home. That's what we will do." -Max
Ornament making will continue all week and possible into next week! The ornaments will dry then be fired in the kiln in time to  finally be sent home, to the children's delight, before the holiday.
The children continue to adore and thrive on "small world" play! Cozy house small world play is still all the buzz and for the  month of December the table setting materials are also cozy.  The large, low table accommodates opportunities for partner, independent, and collaborative play. Every day is different and this is also what maintains the interest.
