We had a small group for a big expedition today.  Our mission was to collect water from the canal to determine its dirtiness (or cleanliness). 
   Ellee - How are we going to get the water, that's my question.  Maybe put on a magnetic suit and hold to each other for a human chain.  I saw that on Magic School Bus.
    Hadley - Maybe go one by one down the rocks.
Over lunch, we made some predictions about what the water might look like once we collected it.
    Ellee - Brown.
    Max - Silverish.
    Hadley - I say all clear.
    Ellee - I think it will be clear, too.  It might look a little brown if we scoop up some stuff.  If it's just water, I think it will be clear.
     Vivienne -  It will look like a swimming pool.  
     Ellee - It will look blue for her because swimming pools are blue. 
We set off with buckets, a pole, and some rope for the canal. ​  Although some children were skeptical, Hadley was convinced that we would find a  a way to be successful.

As you can see, we were able to collect water from the canal.  To our surprise, some samples appeared cleaner than other samples.   We brought the water back to school with us, so we will be able to examine it more closely next week.   Once back at school, we ended our day with a District Doughnut taste test and some (more) Halloween stories.  Enjoy the slide show and we'll see you at the Book Fair!
