We were so happy to be back in the KW swing of things today! We started our day in the outdoor classroom. Friends partook in a larger group dramatic play involving unicorns. Jay, Cassius, Prater, Carl and Mac built a fortress with fire and a dungeon. Friends enjoyed "the chase" to capture unicorns into their lair and also the plan of escape. Other friends tested their abilities on the climbing wall, seeing how high they could reach. Soccer and basketball were also popular in the alley. Last week we noticed that some children began drawing interpretations of life along the canal on their own. Today we offered these drawings again, with additional photographs of the canal and watercolor materials. Children could paint another aspect of life along the canal - the ducks, bridges, marshy waters or perhaps the heron we spotted a few weeks ago. Carl, Jay and Cassius opted for watercolors of Key bridge, while Mac, Vivienne and Lucy focused on the canal and the ducks. Ellee requested hand-sewing materials to be available on the message center table. An airplane structure was left up in the construction area from the Tucker Room this morning. Jay, Cassius, Carl and Mac continued play there this afternoon. They decided to be four brothers - baby brothers - all aboard an airplane to the Rocky Mountains, with no parents on board! Sprite and Coke were the beverages of choice by all!
