What is CW?

The Children's Workshop program is different from the morning program.  This is well-understood by the children in the program.  However, with prospective parents  and visiting educators scheduled to come through the school, we decided to use our documentation space to use children's drawings to represent our afternoon program. 

   Isabelle - We have lunch and we play and we drink water.  And we go outside.  We tableset! My favorite part is all the things!
   Cal - There's table setting.  We eat lunch. after that we play.
    Pierce - I think my favorite part is the atelier.
    Whit - I love building with animals.  A lot of people like that and people connect with me and talk with me.  
   Will - Almost the only thing after clean-up is going home.  My favorite part of CW is table setting. 

​As they clarified the daily schedule, children engaged in sequencing.  A small group carefully thought about the order of experiences in the afternoon. This is the agreed upon schedule:
 1.  Play outside.
 2. Wash hands and go potty.
 3. Table setting and stories.
 4. Eat lunch.  
 5. Play time. 
 6. Clean-up time.
 7. Sing a song. 
​ 8. Go home.  

Children spent yesterday and today labeling and illustrating the various parts of of the day.  They were also enthusiastic about documenting the time-line of our afternoon program.

You'll notice in the above schedule that "play time" is the agreed upon name for our daily experiences: small world, messages, construction, games, puzzles and work in the atelier.  

Jill - Is it really "play time?"
Bailee - Yeah.  Duh.  
Charlton - And building time.  

Children worked on messages, created animal environments the light table and with blocks, enjoyed the time spent in the outdoor classroom, and set up small world.
