Working with Words and Numbers

Our community has enthusiastically participated in thinking about new names for KW.  We appreciate everyone's contributions to this process.  Now is a good time to take stock of where we are.  Yesterday and today we asked children to locate individual words, mark the words with an item, count the words, and tally them in a simple graph.  In addition to the math experiences involved, the process also involved the ability to recognize words.

From Friday: Finlay pointed out that it's hard to read this accurately because the circles are different sizes. Next week we will work on a bar graph format with unifix cubes.

This process offered useful information, but did not give us a final answer.  In order to come closer to completing this process, we are inviting families and children to s special morning meeting:

We will offer a short presentation to review our process and the data collected.  Families will have the opportunity to collaborate and submit an idea for the new name.  

Fantastic Flooring!

Our materials work this week involved  weaving (for rugs). Children have been enthusiastically using the rugs as they set up their small world scenarios.  Next week, we will sew blankets and pillows to make their environments   even cozier!

Small World Stories

The children have continued telling and illustrating their stories from small world.  Luke started his book about "Little Beary" and Ellie's book will be about "Strawberry Unicorn."
