After Jessica and Jill's meeting, we added in two more activities. Children cut up some illustrations from an old book and saved their scraps for later use in the ongoing book art we've been doing. With all of that book art lately, some of the children have worked their books to the point of falling apart! While we've spent time repairing them, we also wondered if the children would like to work in some sturdier books. There was strong agreement about this idea, especially from Hugh who has been working in his book nearly every day. We also have had some new friends join KW since making our previous books. To meet both of these needs we started working in altered books today! Children chose an old hardcover book to alter and began prepping pages by gluing pages together. This will strengthen the pages to handle the media we will add later. Some of the children even attached their envelope of book art scraps to the inside back cover of their book, creating a pocket for continued collecting and creating.!
Jill and Jessica had a meeting this afternoon to finish off the week with Amelia Gambetti. As they had to miss part of KW, Abby and Carla volunteered to substitute for the time they would be out of the classroom. Many thanks to Carla and Abby! The children sure had a great time playing games, building, and painting!!
We're so excited to see how our altered books progress!!
