The World of Collage

In January, we invited families to cut out images for collages.  This week, children sorted through images and decided which one to include in their collage.  We will continue this next week, but we already have some stunning results.

Each collage required a number  of design decisions.  Think about these questions as you view our virtual gallery today!
What background paper did the child select?
What is the orientation of the child's paper: portrait or landscape?
Does the collage include a collection of the child's favorite things?  Or did the child stick to one particular idea or theme?
Did the child include a photo of himself or herself in the collage?
Did the child fill the paper or leave open space?
Are the images separate or is there some overlap?
Can your child tell a story about his or her collage?

The artist call this "Princess Mimi and Her Castle."

Seon included images of two of her favorite things: butterflies and the solar system.

Louisa started with her favorite animal: horses. She then provided them with other animal friends.

Remy calls this "Silly Town."

Ellie tells us that this is the Robot's Garden. "He has treats and the teeth are there to be scary."

Lily worked on this garden for two days. She carefully selected pieces that would be the appropriate size for her collage.

Frances included some of the favorite things in this collage: dogs, shiny things, and cookies,

Saul said, "I have seven owls at home and nine owls on my collage." (He added even more today!)

Zari's theme was "Flowers and Food."
Picture
Bailee calls this "A Family of Dogs." She made a second dog collage today.

Cal said, "Let's call this a big page of birds."
Hugh, Wilder, and Michael have all started collages.  They will have a chance to finish next week.  Frannie is already asking to make another one!
It's hard to believe, but we didn't;t open small world all week!  There were opportunities for group games, large building, and building on the light table.

A Week Without Small World!

It's hard to believe, but we didn't open small world all week!  Today we built on a larger scale and played Zingo!

Our Books

The best part of working on books is having someone read them!  Many thanks to Molly for being our guest reader yesterday!

Have a wonderful weekend!  See you Tuesday!
