Table Runner Work

Children have been very thoughtful in their approach to putting the table runners together this week.  In Wednesday's blog, we noted how children considered a variety of things when determining lay out.  They definitely considered which colors and patterns would work together.  They also thought about relationships, often placing friends near each other in the lay out.  Yesterday, children started sewing the squares together.  Before they began sewing, there were several steps in the process.
  • Children chose which table runner they would sew.
  • They studied a photo of the layout created the day before, to make sure they would follow the design.
  • They chose which squares they would sew together.
  • Referring to the photo again, they put the squares together in sequence, making sure the orientation of each square was correct.
  • Finally, they could begin sewing!

Cal used the machine to sew his fabric square today.

Connections

The KW program is a mixed age group, allowing for children to make connections with children that they don't work and play with in the morning program.  We have seen a number of friendships and supportive relationships form.  For example, children often make messages for a friend from another class.
The children also share their knowledge and expertise with one another.  Yesterday, Lucas was working on a ginkgo transformation drawing. Ellie came over and was impressed with the train he was creating.  However, she wasn't sure how to get started. Lucas came around to her side of the story and explained the process. Both children enjoyed the interaction!

A Construction Challenge

Before work started in construction today, we elevated one end of the table to form an incline.
Finlay - Now, everything's just going to fall off!
The builders accepted the challenge and found that they could still build on the incline.
Hugh - This was too easy!  Next time we will have to make it higher!

This and That

Once it stopped raining, we had a great time outside together this week.  Of course, small world building, messages, and puzzles continued to be popular!

Have a Great Long Weekend and Keep Sending in the "Eating Together" Photos!
