Birthday Cake Baking! Both groups baked cakes for the school's birthday celebration tomorrow. Yesterday the Rainey crew baked for the Brown Room. We used a recipe recommended by Brigitte... Lemon Yogurt Cake. It should be good, but it nowhere near as spectacular as the cake that the morning Rainey program baked for their special snack! Today it was Tucker Room's turn to bake a gluten-free version of the cake. They discussed the process as they worked, making connections to other things they had recently discussed.
What do eggs do when you cook? - Jordan Eggs make it puff - Janie Eggs stick the pieces together - Giacomo You don't get the taste of eggs, though. No one wants to taste raw eggs - Jack (reading the instructions aloud)...mix until homogeneous - Jordan What does that mean? - Janie Do you remember when we talked about "monochromatic" today? - Elyse It's when everything is one color - Lochie Homogeneous is similar. The whole thing should look the same. So if we mix until its homogeneous, it means the batter should look the same all the way through.- Jordan It means it looks the same - Lochie It means its all one thing - Giacomo The children mix vegetable oil into their mixture Is it homogeneous yet? - Jordan Yes! It was 2 things (the oil sat on top) but now it's one thing. - Lochie
