More Materials!

There seems to be no end to the ways that we can connect work with materials to small world.  This week, children made watercolors that could represent tile floors in the tiny environments.  Some children continued weaving for the small world floor coverings.

Seon used her watercolor painting to represent a floor in small world.
While working:
Frannie - This is all icy colors (her watercolor).
Remy - I love when it's all one color -- I love that!  My string has three different colors.  I can do this (weaving) all by myself!
Frannie - It's going to be an icy carpet (weaving).
Remy - I'm going to use holiday colors.  Is orange a holiday color?  Isn't black the best color in the world?  (Referring to her watercolor.)
Ellie - (While weaving) I'm making a carpet.
Mimi - (With watercolors) I used all the colors.
Bailee - (With watercolors) I did pink and white.
Louisa - How do you make pink?
Lucas - ((With watercolors). That's all my favorite colors.  I'm going to leave one white because on of my favorite colors.

Looking ahead, we will also share the stories that emerge in small world in illustrated books. Cape has started to think about his story featuring the lion family.  The lion is the king of small world (in this story).  There's also a queen and a lion cub.  We'll keep you posted as the stories develop.

The KW Name Change... A Work in Progress

The KW children are enthusiastically inventing names and representative drawing for the KW name change.  The greeting hallway features an amazing collection of possible names.
   Hugh - it's a million hundred names.
Finlay - I think there's a hundred and two.  What if we used all the names?
  Jill reads the entire collection.
Finlay - That's great, but it might be hard to remember.  Why don't we vote?
That's a great idea!  We will host an event in early March for the KW community to weigh in on the name change!

This and that....

  • The children have been playing great group games outside.  "Stuck in the Mud" is a favorite.  Last week, they also enjoyed playing "Clean Your Room."
  • Messages and drawings, as well as messages featuring drawings are always popular.
  • Of course, there was small world!
