Our Table Runners are Nearly Complete!

"It's kind of like a carpet that goes on the table."     Luke
The sewing machine has been running almost non-stop as we piece together our table runners.   Children have been very careful to sew straight lines as they connect the squares.  They also pay attention to the layout that was devised last week to make that the placement and orientation of each piece is just right.    With a little luck, we will be able to use them for lunch later this week!
"I don't know, maybe we shouldn't use it. Because it will be so cool."   Finlay

A Beautiful Building

We are all intrigued by the book fair theme of "Beauty through the Eyes of a Child."  While beauty is such an abstract concept, we have begun to share our ideas through conversations in KW.
What do you think beauty is?
Cate - Beauty is to be beautiful.
    Jade - It means pretty.
    Ellie - Ice cream!
    Cal - Dragons.
    Mimi - Elsa!
    Wilder - Beautiful pictures.
    Remy - Beautiful clay carrots.
Jade - Something could be beautiful because it has diamonds.  Or a trophy that is gold.
    Cape- A witch is beautiful.
Jade - There's more to it.  (She goes to the block shelf and picks up one block). This is not beautiful.  It's just a block.  But you can use a lot of blocks to make something beautiful.

Conversation while building:
Cape - Maybe we should connect our buildings.
   Jade - Yeah!
The group collaborates throughout the building process.

Saul - Isn't it beautiful?
Luke - This is called the pumpkin house.
Saul - No, it's the beauty house.
Wilder - No one will ever believe this.  We started so small and it got so big.

Sensational Small World

Building on a small scale continues to be popular.  Yesterday's structures included  intricate designs, castles, and animal homes.

Here's a close look at the small world play for today!

Seon - It's a bunny family - they are inside- waiting for breakfast. (The breakfast is cooked inside a small oven while the bunny family is waiting for their meal.) Seon adds trees in the backyard to make it “beautiful. “ Seon placed six cookies on her mini tray because there were six in the family! “One for each.”

Finlay -  I built a house with a hidden backyard; only tiny people can get in. There are golden carpets outside, a seaside, a hot tub, and a bed that can give you a snack if you are hungry.  The TV is on top of the fireplace, a massage area, a candy area, and a video game room. The stingray owns the house, but lots of people live here too! That's the King of the house ( a dinosaur.)

There was a lot of interest in message center today.  Even Shelly received som messages!
