Starting the School Year

As the school year starts, we are considering four initiatives.  Please check out the hallways documentation (pictured above) to learn more about the things we are thinking about.   One of the initiatives involves research and planning for an eventual update to the outdoor classroom.   As we begin, Kids' Workshop is looking at the ways children more their bodies in outdoor spaces.  We've started to collect images from both our Outdoor Classroom and from today's trip to Volta Park.  We probably took 100 pics! Take a look at the many ways children like to move. (Some of these photos were taken yesterday.)

Last year the KW group gift was a field trip bag loaded with accessories. We put the bag to good use today. The children especially loved the water spray bottle!

When we returned from our field trip, we had a chance to reflect on our movement experiences. Here's some of that conversation:
​   Lou Lou - I moved my body around and I kinda ran around and I spinned Leigh and then Leigh spinned me and I played on the see-saw.
     Jessica - How did it feel to move at the playground?
     Samuel - Sweaty.... I mean, like tiring.
     Lou Lou - Super good, super strong.
     Louise - It was hot, and I didn't want to do it, but I did.
     Leigh - Nobody used the swings.
     Lou Lou - Because teachers couldn't push.
