Yesterday we welcomed a new friend to the classroom, a betta fish! We observed him swimming and shared our initial observations during Monday’s morning meeting.
Jack: I think we should call him “blue tail” because he has some blue on his tail. I have another name, candycane. My betta loves to rest next to the heater because it keeps his tail warm. CC: His tails looks like feathers. Lochie: Yeah, he looks like a bird. Elle: And he’s rainbow! Jack: He’s just kind of swimming around. CC: Yeah, swimming all around the tank. Marley: He’s a boy fish Elle: His name is “red whale”. He’s a grown up fish. CC: He kind of looks like a taco. Elle: He’s a betta fish. CC: He kind of looks like a butterfly. Violet: I want to name him unicorn. CC: Or another name could be sparklefish.
While we still haven’t settled on a name, our observations continued into today. Lochie and Violet even did their best to look at the fish through the digital microscope but it was harder than they’d planned for!
Lochie: Oh, just stop swimming! Violet: Yeah, he's just swimming and swimming and swimming!
Speaking of newcomers, we also spent time today making messages for incoming brown room children. Using fabric, beads and paper RRA collaged messages for children welcoming them to the school.
Elle: I’m making one for her. What’s her name? Brigitte: Emily Elle: Mine is going to be super full. Marley: Mine is going to be super, super full. George: Look what I found!
Big thanks to Jack's mom for joining us as our first in person mystery reader today!
