We are still mixing boxes for students. Please bring them when you have a chance. Thank you!

A beautiful day means Rainey Room is out to play! Gotta enjoy these days before winter hits. We got a chance to try out Rainey Room A's newest obstacle course which was super fun. Sylvie loves to balance, hop and skip her way through time and time again.

Outside, Rainey Room began to rediscover clay. Today we focused on using our hands. We practiced getting air out, scoring the clay and using small amounts of water to make the clay more pliable. Giacomo helped make our first creation, Mr. Monster.

Inside we had some much energy we continued our fun with a dance party. We checked out our new Music Map, which shows us all the different music we've listened to from across the world. After Jane's suggestion for Mama Mia, we had an 80's dance party. Our rocking playlist includes:

Abba: Mama Mia
Whitney Houston: Dance with Somebody
a-ha: Take on Me
Kenny Loggins: Footloose

In our quest to stay connected as a larger Rainey Room cohort, one of our latest ideas has been to find a way to celebrate birthdays together. While we are limited in terms of physical space, we thought about ways we could represent birthdays in both classrooms. On Tuesday, Rainey Room A read Fogliano and Robinson’s When’s My Birthday. The book discusses counting down to a birthday and all the seasonal cues to check if it’s your birthday month(leaves on the tree, snow on the ground, etc.). We discussed other cues to tell how it’s the girl’s birthday.

How do you know it’s her birthday?
Lochie: “She’s thinking about her birthday”
George: “She’s going to a party”
Lochie: “She’s wearing a birthday hat!”

Could we make something to wear on our birthdays?
Lochie: “A hat!”
Violet: “ a necklace”
Jack: “mmmm what about a superhero cape”

As a class we settled on making a cape! We decided to use our sewing skills that we’ve been working on since the start of school adding all all kinds of “shiny stuff” and “some sparkles” to make it something special. Each child has the option to wear it on the day of their birthday celebration and both Rainey A and Rainey B will decorate it, adding a personalized wooden bead for each birthday that passes.
