Today during our morning meeting we had a surprise to share with the children. You can see Lily and Hugh waiting patiently with their eyes closed as Sam was bringing in the "surprises".

This was the first time that we officially introduced our individual mailboxes to the group as a whole. We brought them to our morning meeting and each child was able to open, read, and listen to their messages being read aloud. Thank you to our families. Receiving messages from home brought a smile to so many faces and the children were so proud to be the recipients of your beautiful work!

Please remember you are always welcome to send a message to school in your child's cubby bag and/or send them something in the mail. Now that we are aware of how our school "post office" works, visiting our mailboxes will be a regular occurrence. The post office is the first area we walk past every day once we're upstairs and heading towards our cubbies.
Words of enthusiasm as children were looking through messages from home -
"A reindeer! It's so cute." - Hugh
"I see your sisters name on the paper. It says Elle. She must have drawn that for you." - Sam
"Aww that's so sweet." - Hugh
"Oh look! I see a letter (noticing a second letter from home). It is so sweet." - Hugh

"A note! I see stamps on it." - Finlay

"This is mine. I'm gonna take it home. I take the letters home." - Cape

"Let me help you." - Daniel
"Yeah." - Lucas

Our puzzle collection was thoroughly investigated today. At first, it was really fun to dump all of the pieces onto the floor. Then, we witnessed collaboration as children worked together collecting pieces that matched to specific puzzles.  Daniel noticed that the alphabet pieces to the puzzle Lucas was interested in were scattered around the floor. "Let me help you", he said. Lucas responded, "yeah" and accepted Daniel's assistance.
As Finlay initially observed others working on their own puzzle boards, he encouraged everyone's participation by saying, "let's see the match"! Soon he joined in on the challenge and found his own puzzle of interest, a transportation themed puzzle. "That is for going to the moon (examining the rocket ship puzzle piece). These is airplanes. Takeoff!" (Finlay)

Another friend chose his symbol today!
Daniel was inspired to choose his  symbol after a trip to the post office where he noticed his sister, Olivia's, photo and symbol displayed on her mailbox. He even visited Olivia's classroom to test our her symbol himself, before choosing one of his own.

Daniel: Olivia! That's my sister. Can I please see her? Ice cream.
Ines: That's her symbol.
Daniel: Can I see her ice cream?
(They leave to investigate Olivia's symbol in her classroom)

(Back in our studio)
Ines: Do you want to choose your symbol?
Daniel: Yes. I already did. Bumblebees.  See?

"I see something exciting." - Cape
(Observing a bucket truck in the adjacent yard trimming tall tree branches)

What a great ending to our first week at school! Your children are all settling in nicely to their new environment.
We are so looking forward to seeing what this school year has in store for us in the Brown Room.
Enjoy your weekend!

"We were having so much fun in the park..." - Daniel
