SUMMER 2025

Connections: June 30 - July 1

Connections started off the week with a fun surprise: Dress-ups! We had a lot of fun pretending to be dragons, butterflies, knights, construction workers, good guys, bad guys, and even a dentist!
We also started making an armature for our papier-mache castle-rocket! Full of tunnels and towers and entrances for the bad guys and the good guys.
There were some really creative methods used to make fun effects with the water colours. Sander and Lucy had the idea to use a sponge to soak up some of the colour, and we used spray bottles to make a galaxy effect.

We have also been building in Construction, painting with watercolors, and weaving with looms!

Lily: "There's not much green there!"
Freddie: "In New York there's a lot of stuff."
Noah: "I made a carousel!"
We've also had a lot of fun experimenting with wet-on-wet vs. wet-on-dry watercolour techniques, and with building the armature for our papier-mache Castle-Space-Rocket.

This week, we introduced our friends to clay! We began by using our hands to explore the different sensations, feelings, and explore shaping the material. We explored multiple tools and how that changed their clay piece. We had a lot of fun playing and shaping a new medium!

Connections 6/18 & 6/20

Happy Friday!

Connections had an eventful week. Jack and Henry found that there are a lot of creatures that live underneath rocks and in the soil, and their discovery of two teeny tiny snails captivated the whole group, opening up a lot of discussion about insects, bugs, and other animals. We had the chance to try and draw our favorite animals in oil pastels earlier in the week, and on Friday we even got to see a real-life bug collection and used the light table to inspect what some insects look like on the inside. Then we used water colors to paint our favorite insects.

There was also quite a bit of building that went on in the construction area, including a whole zoo and a tall tower. Legos allowed us to make rocketships, boats, and spaceships completely from our imagination.

"I made a roast beet salad! The secret ingredients are banana, sugar, salt, and tomato" - Sander
"I can make so many smoothies" - Susan
