Happy first week of camp Explorers! To start off the week we completed portfolio name tags. These name tags hang on the children's drawer where they keep all their art work until the end of the session!
To get to know everyone a little better we made monochrome collages of our favorite colors. We read books and learned about the color wheel, different shades of color and what monochrome means! We also engaged in paint mixing to try and achieve various shades and colors. The paint mixing became very popular as they imagined themselves to be chefs.

George - "I made shaved ice flavor."
Evan - "We are chefs!"
Henri - "More mustard!!"
George - "Blue is sweet and red is spicy."
Evan - "Red is red hot."
The explorers have also been loving the ongoing 'Under the Sea' fabric collage. We read lots of under the sea books, and the love of water day inspired this project! First they used fabric markers to plan out their design, then they used pieces of fabric to fill in all the space. Henri mentioned "it's dark at the bottom of the sea, like in the book we read about eels, so we should make dark spots."  The children loves to add texture fabric as well to create coral and seaweed.
Clay and weaving are always a crowd pleaser as well. There was a clay theme of "Going on a Picnic" so many bowls and different foods were made.
Finally, water day is always a success especially on these hot days!
