Welcome to our first journal of 2019!  It has been so good seeing our Monday and Tuesday folks again this week.  We can't wait until tomorrow to greet our Wednesday folks!

****(Note:This journal will contain pictures from both yesterday and today!)

At morning meeting Monday and Tuesday, we got to hear a little bit about some of the experiences the Brown Room children had over the holiday.

We heard some very exciting stories, too.  Cannon told us he went to the zoo over break and got to see the tiger!  Gigi told us about her time in Miami swimming in the ocean and the pool.
Taking Care of the Plants in Our Classroom

When teachers returned to the classroom after break, they found that some plants were in poor health and others were ready to be thrown out.  We repotted some brand new plants and took good care of ones that needed new soil.  Maren watched the new soil pour into the planter and said, "Plants eat dirt... like chocolate."
Jumping into the New Year with... CLAY!  Read captions to find out more.
Candyland

When teachers rearranged the classroom to facilitate new experiences in Brown Room, we added new materials.  One of our new additions is Candyland!  Today, Lane explained to her friends about how to play.  As her friends gathered to play, she pointed to the starting point of the board and said, "Start from here."  When Gigi picked a card with a symbol of a popsicle, Lane said, "Move to the popsicle" and pointed her in the right direction.

Grace: I wanna be a green guy.
Lane:  Who could be blue?  I could be blue.  You could be yellow. (To Brooke).  Get one card.  Move your color to the colors. I'll show you how to start. You start from there.

The kitchen is still an incredibly popular area of play.  Some quotes from the past couple days:

Fletcher: Pasta's ready!
Alexandra:  That's not how my mommy makes it.
Emilia: We're making something for Melanie.
Olivia: (I'm making) green pasta.
Maren: That's weird... Pasta's supposed to be yellow.
Olivia: There's no oven.  You probably have to get a oven.
Maren: There's just a stove.
Olivia:  And pizza butters.
Overall, there is a lot of excitement about being back together again!

When Evelyn noticed there wasn't enough room on our small rowboat, we decided to make a new boat that was much bigger!  Everybody climbed on.  (See picture below)

Fletcher imagined we were on a real ocean, and said, "We have to stop! There's rocks! I stop, I stop, we stop the boat.  Oh no, I'm stuck here, I'm stuck in the water! I'm sinking!"  Cannon heard his cries for help and ran over to give a big hug.  Lane said, "We need power!"
