Making a Special Sewing for Alexandra...

Magnetic Chalkboard: Experiments with Gravity

Palmer rolls a ball down the pipe and says, "TIIIIMMMMMBBBBERRRRRRRRR!!!!"

Olivia experiments with making a ball go upwards through the tube.
"How would we make it up?  I have a idea."  She carries additional pipes to the board. 
"It's very hard to do this.  It will go up, up, up, and all the way."
By carefully maneuvering the ball upwards through each small curved pipe with her fingers, she makes progress.  The ball gets stuck in a long tube.  She blocks the other end of the passageway with a handful of zip ties.
"I need to put these in here to stop the ball.  Go the ball!" she tells Grace.

Oliver uses a similar method of maneuvering the ball through small curved pipes.   He calls this the "giraffie pipe".  It operates like a machine.

He puts the ball in the left side, heading upwards, and when it falls through the short passage, Oliver shifts the final pipe at a 90 degree angle so the ball gets "dumped" out.

Post Office Related News...

Many thanks to Jessica Kuhn for coming to visit our classroom this afternoon.  She brought her scale and her laptop to demonstrate how she prints out stamps, and explain how the cost of the stamp relates to how heavy the letter is.  She printed us a stamp for our letter to Officer Atkins.  Thank you!

And finally, a very exciting thing: We received a postcard from Germany!!!! Alexandra sent us a message to let us know:

• she walks past the Opera house almost every day
• she just started school
• she still looks at the blog
• some of her furniture has finally arrived
• she wants to know how Pam is doing, and how the fairy houses are doing
• she likes Melanie's purple hair :)
• happy birthday to Gigi and Grace
• she likes the hot dogs in Germany

We added it to our postcard collection!! Thanks Alexandra!!! We miss you.
